SHP Leading Design Has New Hamilton Home
05.25.10
To position the firm for continued growth, expand service offerings and increase efficiency, SHP Leading Design (SHP) has moved its office in Hamilton, Ohio. The office, now located in the rehabilitated Mercantile building at 236 High Street in the central business district of downtown Hamilton, is a street-level storefront that incorporates green design principles with the goal of achieving the LEED Commercial Interiors (CI) Gold Rating.
SHP’s new space solidifies the firm’s history of more than a century of designing some of the most celebrated buildings in Hamilton and Butler County. It also reinforces the firm’s absolute commitment to innovative architectural design and sustainable design.
"This unique office visibly celebrates SHP’s history of more than 100 years in Hamilton while paying respect to the historical and architectural design of the building,” said Michael Dingeldein, AIA, LEED AP – vice president architecture and general manager, Hamilton. “We designed our new office space to enable us to be a more responsive, flexible and high-performing organization for our clients, and we are proud to make our communities better places to live, work, learn and play.”
Keeping its commitment to sustainability, SHP repurposed many of the items from its former office and used them in the new space. For example, the company reused the base of the conference table but created a new tabletop out of wood from recycled bleachers from Hamilton High School. Other components for the conference room, including the flat-panel screen and DVD shelf, were also crafted from these former bleachers.
Additionally, SHP applied best practices in workflow management to create a more open, collaborative and productive space for team members. SHP designed workstations to promote a collaborative environment, with flexible pieces that can be easily rearranged, creating dual-use space. For example, the kitchen counter—made of recycled glass—can be used not only for lunchtime but also as a gathering space where laptops can be connected to the flat screen for presentations and design critiques. The open space includes many green design standards of SHP’s Cincinnati headquarters as well as its Columbus office.
SHP Leading Design offers a complete line of planning, architecture, interior design, engineering, construction administration and facilities management services. With more than 105 years of experience, the firm is committed to leading the community in innovative architectural design and sustainable design. Headquartered in Cincinnati, SHP also has offices in Columbus and Hamilton, Ohio.
