SHP Hamilton Office Achieves LEED Silver Certification

(Hamilton) – SHP Leading Design is pleased to announce that the SHP Hamilton Office received its LEED Silver Certification.  LEED is the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) rating system for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and high performing buildings.

“This was a very exciting project for our organization,” SHP Vice President Mike Dingeldein said. “With the certification of our Hamilton office, SHP is celebrating our second LEED certified office.  It also joins the impressive list of over 40 LEED Registered or Certified projects for the firm.”

To position the firm for continued growth, expand service offerings and increase efficiency, SHP moved its office in Hamilton, Ohio last year. The office, which is located in the rehabilitated Mercantile building at 236 High Street in the central business district of downtown Hamilton.

“The office reinforces our dedication to the community and visibly celebrates SHP’s history of more than 100 years in Hamilton,” Dingeldein added.

Keeping its commitment to sustainability, SHP repurposed many of the items from its former office and used them in the new space. For example, the company reused the base of the conference table but created a new tabletop out of wood from recycled bleachers from Hamilton High School. Other components for the conference room, including the flat-panel screen and DVD shelf, were also crafted from these former bleachers.

Additionally, SHP applied best practices in workflow management to create a more open, collaborative and productive space for team members. SHP designed workstations to promote a collaborative environment, with flexible pieces that can be easily rearranged, creating dual-use space. For example, the kitchen counter—made of recycled glass—can be used not only for lunchtime but also as a gathering space where laptops can be connected to the flat screen for presentations and design critiques. The open space includes many green design standards of SHP’s LEED Gold Certified Cincinnati headquarters as well as its Columbus and Denver offices.
