(Cincinnati, OH) — SHP Leading Design was honored with a Merit Award in the AIA Built Work category at the 17th Annual Cincinnati Design Awards (CDA17), held on Friday, November 15th, 2013. Each year, the CDA program recognizes high quality design in the regional community. The exceptional work by the SHP team on the Beavercreek Elementary and Middle School project was summarized by juror Frank Harmon, FAIA, of Raleigh, North Carolina:
“The jury applauds the architect’s use of comfortable spaces, warm materials, and warm colors in a building that is carefully scaled for children. In today’s society, a school such as this is one of the most challenging project types. Too often cheap budgets and expediency result in schools that resemble light industrial complexes instead of places to inspire children.
At Beavercreek, we have a school that many of us would want our own children to attend.
Being a multi-disciplined group of jurors, we especially commend the integration of architecture, graphics, interior design, and landscape architecture, the selection of furniture and the equipment-integration – the combination of which creates a lesson in school design.”
