Jenny Gallow of SHP Leading Design received Cincinnati Magazine’s coveted “Rising Star” award Nov. 9 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hotel. The Rising Star award recipients are determined each year by a common jury of distinguished guests connected to the design industry. This recognition marks the first Rising Star award for a SHP designer.
Gallow, interior designer at SHP Leading Design, received the award largely in part thanks to her efforts in a complete renovation of the children and teen areas of the North Dearborn Public Library in Dearborn, Indiana. Recognized for her vision and compassion around creating spaces for youth, Gallow worked with a team of local artists and design professionals to reinvent a space to better serve the surrounding community’s youth.
“From start to finish, the North Dearborn Public Library was entirely integrated to suit the needs of the community,” said Gallow. “Stakeholder engagement, focus groups, design team meetings, and discussions with community members allowed us to extract insights that guided the project. The close-knit relationship we held with these folks enabled us to create a space that is flexible, modern, and comfortable. ”
The North Dearborn Library now boasts a “Pathway to your future” theme seen through a series of murals showcased throughout the space, and designed by local artist, Tara Calahan King. Activity walls are located throughout the space and feature modular panels that can be changed for flexibility. And to further appeal to the futuristic theme of the space, fabricator Multiple Design Solutions was commissioned to design a rocket-ship sculpture that doubles as a reading nook.
