SHP designed a $30M, 140,000 square foot addition and 200,000 square foot renovation program to transform the existing high school to a 21st century learning environment.
Key features include:
- The dramatic addition creates a highly visible and impressive new look for the district’s flagship facility.
- A complex phasing plan was created to keep the building operational throughout the aggressive construction school. Typically a project of this size would take 18-24 months and SHP was able to complete it under 14 months.
- During the design process several spaces were recreated to react to changing educational needs. This included the media center that from the time of initial planning to actual construction, the number of volumes the space needed to house decreased by over 10,000. To support this change, we designed soft seating areas and group gathering spaces. High back, soft chairs were used to create intimate spaces within the larger library, smaller chairs with tablet arms are set on casters to allow movement and electronic data ports are everywhere.
- A full branding strategy was implemented that included supergraphics to carry the aviator mascot and theme throughout the building.
