This two-story middle school facility addresses the needs of the community with a design that fits in with the Miami Trace Campus, including pitch roofs, brick exterior with cast stone accents and panels and green strategies for LEED Gold certification. The building provides wings specifically designed to house various age groups while allowing for overlapping use of resources such as grouping middle and 6th grade science in a wing for sharing equipment and the science program.

Features include access controls on all exterior doors for safety and security; smart boards and projectors in all teaching spaces; sound reinforcement system in all classrooms; and VOIP phone system. “Vital Signs” Building Automation System interface allows students and staff to see aspects of sustainable design in action.

Key features for middle school student learning include:

  • 7th and 8th grade wings for more efficient team teaching
  • Small group rooms for pull out and special needs instruction
  • Computer lab in each grade grouping
  • One classroom each in 7th/8th grade wing for Gifted and Talented and the CBIP Great Oaks program
