A tight site drove the efficient layout of the new 96,000 sf middle school for the district’s 5th – 8th graders.
Innovative features include:
- Large, open corridors are highlighted with bold patterns, a linear wood-planked ceiling and an abundance of glass to enhance the visible connection with classrooms, offices and the outdoors.
- 21st Century learning environments were included throughout the building. Hexagon-shaped desks are included in every classroom to promote collaboration. A small group room is also included between two classrooms to provide break out space while maintaining a visual connection to the classroom through glass windows and doors. In addition, a project laboratory was included for each grade level.
- Sustainable features such as a geothermal heating and cooling system, extensive daylighting and occupancy sensors were included for increased energy savings.
